What Redstor is now
Redstor is a cloud backup and recovery platform managed from one web-based app. In 2025 it became part of CyberSentriq, and Redstor's own site now says that Redstor has joined the CyberSentriq family. The backup service, its app and its storage carry on under the Redstor name, and the backup is now sold as Redstor Backup and Recovery powered by CyberSentriq.
For Microsoft 365, Redstor is cloud-native and agentless: nothing is installed on devices, and the service picks up new users automatically, so new starters are not missed. Setting it up needs a Redstor company administrator and a Microsoft 365 Global Administrator to grant consent, and restores use the relevant admin role for each service.
As with any Microsoft 365 backup solution, the reason to have it is that Microsoft's recycle bins and version history are time-limited, and under the Microsoft 365 shared responsibility model recovering your data is your responsibility.
What Redstor backs up
| Workload | What Redstor protects |
|---|---|
| Exchange Online | Mailboxes, calendars and contacts, from a whole account to a single email and its attachments |
| OneDrive | User files and folders |
| SharePoint | Sites, document libraries, lists and metadata |
| Teams | Teams, channels, conversations and files; see the Teams notes below |
| OneNote | Notebooks, including the Class and Staff Notebooks used by teachers and students |
OneNote is the distinctive one. Redstor backs up notebooks held in OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams and names teacher and student notebooks explicitly, which matters to schools and trusts that run lessons and staff records through OneNote Class and Staff Notebooks. Redstor's help centre says Class Notebooks are recovered through InstantData as a folder of standard notebooks, so we show you what a restore looks like before you rely on it.
Teams needs a closer look. Redstor's product page lists meeting recordings, but its help centre says recordings are not backed up (links to them are), that posts are restored into a new team rather than the original, that recovery of private user-to-user chats is not supported and that archived teams cannot be backed up until they are unarchived. We check Teams coverage against how your organisation uses it before you commit. Our Microsoft Teams backup page explains why chats are the hard part for every vendor.

Malware-scanned, immutable backups
Redstor's security story has two parts.
Every backup is scanned. Redstor scans backups for malware, which it describes as AI-powered, so that infected or compromised files are flagged before you restore them. Redstor says this is to ensure you do not restore ransomware-infected or compromised files. That matters in a ransomware recovery, where the worst outcome is restoring the infection along with the data; our Microsoft 365 ransomware recovery guide sets out how to find a clean restore point.
Backups are immutable and isolated. Redstor says every backup is encrypted, immutable and isolated from your live Microsoft environment, and cannot be altered or deleted once written. Our immutable Microsoft 365 backup page explains how that maps to the NCSC's principles for ransomware-resistant cloud backups.
InstantData and other restore options
Restores are where Redstor differs most from the others:
- InstantData: Redstor's technology streams files and mailboxes back so users can open the content they need straight away, while the full restore carries on in the background. After a large incident, that can let people get back to work before every item has been restored.
- Granular restore: a single email or file rather than a whole workload.
- Point in time: choose a restore point by date, or search for a specific item.
- Full restore: whole mailboxes, sites or accounts, run in the background.
Redstor also says it charges no egress fees, so large restores or a migration out of Redstor do not carry extra data charges. For everyday scenarios, see Microsoft 365 backup and restore, including restoring a deleted mailbox.
Is Redstor Microsoft 365 backup the right fit for you?
We will check it against your systems and requirements and recommend the right option.
Retention, storage location and bundles
Unlimited retention. Redstor includes unlimited retention for Microsoft 365, so data can be kept for as long as you need it, including leavers' mailboxes and files after their Microsoft licence has been removed.
Storage location. Redstor offers multi-region storage so you can choose where your backups are held. If you need your backups stored in the UK, tell us and we confirm UK storage availability at quote. Our Microsoft 365 backup compliance page covers the wider UK GDPR questions.
Bundles. Redstor Microsoft 365 backup can be bought on its own or in a bundle:
| Option | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 backup | Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams and OneNote |
| Restore Bundle | Microsoft 365 backup plus Entra ID backup of users, groups, roles and policies |
| Comply Bundle | Microsoft 365 backup, Entra ID backup and email archiving for Microsoft 365 |
We confirm the licence unit, term and billing frequency in your quote; Microsoft 365 backup pricing explains how the platforms compare.
Setting up Redstor for Microsoft 365
Redstor is managed from its web app, so there is nothing to install on site. This is how we set it up with you:
- Choose the option: Microsoft 365 backup on its own, or the Restore or Comply bundle if you also want Entra ID backup or email archiving
- Choose the region: agree where your backups will be stored, and confirm UK storage at quote if you need it
- Grant consent: a Redstor company administrator and your Microsoft 365 Global Administrator authorise the connection to your tenant
- Let it discover: Redstor picks up users and data automatically, including new users added later, so starters are protected without a manual step
- Agree restore roles: restores use the relevant admin role for each service, so decide who should hold those roles and protect them with multi-factor authentication
- Test a restore: bring back a mailbox item, a file and, for schools, a OneNote notebook page, and try InstantData so you know how it behaves
The Microsoft 365 backup best practices checklist covers what to review after go-live, such as alerting on deleted backups and keeping your recovery plan up to date.
Who it suits and how we help
Redstor suits schools, academies and trusts that rely on OneNote Class and Staff Notebooks and Teams, organisations writing a ransomware recovery plan that want malware-scanned backups and fast recovery, and anyone who wants unlimited retention without tracking storage.
We can count your users, recommend Microsoft 365 backup on its own or a bundle, arrange the consent with your Global Administrator, choose the storage region with you and test a restore together. Licensing detail is on Redstor Microsoft 365 backup licensing, with terms confirmed at quote. Compare Redstor with the others in the Microsoft 365 backup comparison, or contact us to talk it through.
How Forever Systems helps with Microsoft 365 backup
We are an independent UK IT and cyber security provider. We supply more than one Microsoft 365 backup product, so we can recommend what fits your tenant, your retention needs and your budget rather than one vendor's answer to everything.
- Review what you have: we look at your Microsoft 365 licences, retention policies and any existing backup before suggesting anything new
- Help you choose: we compare the backup products we supply against the workloads you need covered, such as Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams and Entra ID
- Set-up and onboarding: we can help connect the backup service to your tenant and agree what is protected and how long copies are kept
- Restore testing: we can help you plan and run test restores so you know how recovery works before you need it
- Licensing in one place: backup licences alongside your Microsoft 365 subscriptions, with terms confirmed at quote
We work with businesses, schools, charities and public sector organisations. Contact us to talk it through.
